The garden spider (Argiope aurantia) is a common type of outdoor spider. It gets its common name from its liking of inhabiting gardens or outdoor areas. The garden spider also spins large, decorative webs.
Habitat
The garden spider likes to inhabit wide-open, sunny patches, so that it has room to build its web. They are also found on the eaves of houses.
Diet
The garden spider eats small vertebrates, such as geckos, and they also will eat insects.
Web Design
Garden spiders are known for their beautiful, 'zigzag' webs. These webs are built by the female, and take up large areas. They canalso have a sort of 'zigzag' pattern down the middle.
As Pets
Garden spiders are not good pets, because in containers, they cannot spin a large enough web.
Bite
The garden is harmless to humans, and its bite causes:
- Swelling
- Mild discomfort
